Football Season Kicks Off

Football is back! And not a moment too soon. For many households, football games are a family event, and we’ve got some ideas to make gameday even better. Whether you’re cheering for your favorite college team or jeering your favorite NFL team’s arch-rival, call these audibles to mix up your gameday fun:

  1. Make a Festive Environment
On any given gameday, you don’t have to just sit down in your everyday digs. Whether you like to watch the game in your living room, man cave, rec room, patio or deck, consider decorating for the game. But decor doesn’t necessarily mean breaking the bank for a framed display of an autographed Dak Prescott jersey. Check the party supplies section of your local supermarket or big box store for football-themed paper plates and paper decorations. Pin up ribbons and streamers in your school colors. Get the kids involved by giving them colorful poster boards and markers and having them draw rally signs to hang on the wall. A fun environment is a win, no matter what the final score is.

  2. Host a Watch Party
Sometimes family members move away in search of opportunity. But that doesn’t mean family gameday traditions have to stop. Travel may be too impractical, too expensive, or family members may not want to travel due to COVID-19 concerns. Consider reconnecting with friends or family by setting up a watch party on a laptop, tablet or another interactive video device. You can use platforms such as Zoom, Google Meet, Skype, Microsoft Teams and others. The game is more fun when you get to cheer together!

  3. Upgrade Your Audio
Some may think you have to upgrade your whole TV for a better viewing experience. But you don’t always need to drop a lot of money on the latest 8k TV to make the game feel more immersive. You can make game broadcasts come alive more affordably by upgrading your audio with a soundbar. Soundbars can put out efficient and vibrant audio without taking up a lot of space and come in a wide range of price points to fit almost any budget. They’re usually available online at a retailer or discount store near you. With fuller audio, your game day can come alive.

  4. Explore With Themed Food
Is your team away? Consider serving some regional cuisine you might find in your opponent’s area. You can feel more like you’re right there on the road with your team without leaving the house. Search the internet to learn what cuisine an area is known for, and identify dishes you’re interested in. After that, recipes for any dish are just a web search away. Here are some ideas to get you started: Are the Dawgs playing Vandy? Cook up some Nashville hot wings! Are the Saints going up against the Patriots? Dish out some clam chowder or lobster rolls. Is Missouri State facing down the Youngstown State Penguins? Try some Polish boys and pierogies. You get the idea! The bonus is that cooking at home is often cheaper than ordering take-out or delivery. You can have a new experience and save money at the same time.
