ATM Safety

ATMs are a convenient way to get cash and make deposits; however, they can pose a safety hazard if criminals use them to steal from unsuspecting victims. Discover how BancorpSouth protects you when using an ATM and how you can protect yourself as well.

How BancorpSouth protects you when using an ATM:

  • PIN-Based Access. All BancorpSouth customers use a PIN to access their account using an ATM. Customers can change their PIN at any time by calling (888) 797-7711.
  • Withdrawal Limits. All debit and credit cards are subject to a daily withdrawal limit to protect your accounts.
  • ATM Security. All BancorpSouth ATMs follow industry standards in ATM hardware security, placement, and monitoring systems.

How you can protect yourself when using an ATM:

  • Beware of your surroundings when you approach an ATM. If the ATM is poorly lit or concealed in some way, or if you just don’t feel comfortable for some reason, don’t use it.
  • Don’t count your cash while at an ATM – wait until you are safely inside your locked vehicle to do so.
  • Immediately report a lost or stolen BancorpSouth debit or credit card by calling (888) 797-7711.
  • Memorize your PIN – never write it down. And, guard the keypad when entering your PIN so no one can see it.
  • If you notice anything suspicious while using the ATM, cancel your transaction and leave immediately. Report your concerns to the police and/or ATM owner.
  • Take your ATM receipt with you, as it may contain personal information that might be helpful to criminals.
  • When using a drive-thru ATM, lock your car doors and roll up all windows not in use. If you walk up to the ATM, don't leave your car running or unlocked.
  • Never leave your ATM, debit or credit cards in your car’s glove compartment.
  • When using an indoor ATM that requires your card for access, don’t let others you don’t know in with you.
  • Inspect the ATM for skimmers, paying particular attention to how the ATM card reader looks and feels. If the card reader is loose, don’t use the ATM.
